Michael Nixon-Livy created NST, which was first taught in France in 1996. Michael was inspired by the style of work Tom Bowen was using in the latter years of his clinical practice. Tom Bowen believed that if all muscular imbalances could be released, the body would regulate itself, and in the process pain and symptoms would vanish and energy levels would increase. "The intelligence of the body would be altered and the process of Michael dedicated NST to Tom Bowen, the man, the genius, the visionary. In his manual, the words say it all: "May the Neurostructural Integration Technique be received at the highest level and may his dream of healing become a universal reality." Michael now resides in Germany. NST is taught in many countries and has gained enormous respect at many prestigious institutions throughout Europe. NST is specifically designed for professionals in clinical practice, however it is not necessarily for health practitioners only. It is a simple and effective technique for anyone with the will and desire to learn. It is said that the real secret as to why NST works is because of its underpinning philosophy. Put simply, the philosophy is that the body is a self-regulating bio-energetic and bio-mechanical phenomena which will continue to regulate itself for as long as it has the reserve energy necessary to sustain life, by the ongoing process of biological adaptation. Through this process which enables the body to regulate itself, many symptoms will disappear. "The symptoms in the first place were a product of the Contrary to some people's belief, it is not the skeleton from which the body hangs, it is the muscles that hold us up. In fact we are 80% muscle, and as they are the largest energy consumers in the body, they demand more energy than anything else. Muscles lead, organs follow. It is the organs of the body which respond to activity, hence the demands on the muscles and not the other way around - it is no good working on the organs when the neuromuscular system is loaded with compensations. It is one thing to be able to put the body back together, but it is another thing to understand why it went out of balance in the fist place and postural analysis can certainly give some clues. NST is a technique which has been designed to remove the neuromuscular compensations and restore balance so that the body may function as it was designed: a dynamically interactive whole, without pain. Implicit in this "whole body" philosophy is that we are first adjusting the BIG PICTURE with the understanding that the many symptoms someone may have will be resolved in the process. |
